The !Load New Audio Files folder provides a simple way to add new audio to the Arrakis Automation Engine (AAE). This folder is located inside the station’s configured Audio Directory and is monitored by the AAE for new files.
To import audio, copy the completed audio file into the appropriate Type folder under Audio Directory\!Load New Audio Files. Once detected, the AAE processes the file, adds its information to the Audio Library, and makes it available for playback.
Audio files should follow the standard Arrakis naming format, with each field separated by a plus (+) sign. The recommended format is:
Cart Number+Title+Artist+Voice+EOM+Type+Start Date+Kill Date+Reserved+Run Time.ext
For example:
1000+Yellow Submarine+The Beatles+M+.mp3
S100+Jacks Auto+Spring Sale+S+.wav
The Cart Number is the unique identifier used by New Wave to locate and schedule the file and should be unique within the Audio Library. The Title identifies the audio, while the Text/Artist field is normally used for the artist on music files or as an additional description for spots and other audio. The Type identifies how the file is used within New Wave.
Common audio Types include:
M – Music
S – Spot / Commercial
J – Jingle
N – News
A – Autofill
Other single-letter Types may also be used depending on the station's configuration. New Wave uses the Type when sorting, searching, scheduling, and performing certain automation functions. For example, Type A files may be used to fill missing time in an Autofill break.
If the cart number already exists, the previous physical file is moved to Deleted Files and the database entry is replaced, so existing cart numbers should be used deliberately.
Music files receive an additional Music Category assignment. Instead of placing music directly into the main Type M import folder, place it into the appropriate category folder under:
Audio Directory\!Load New Audio Files\M
For example:
...\!Load New Audio Files\M\1
...\!Load New Audio Files\M\2
...\!Load New Audio Files\M\3
For example, a file placed in M\5 is imported as Type M and assigned exclusively to Music Category 5. After import, the physical music file is moved into the main library’s M folder—not its numbered category subfolder—but its numbered category remains stored in the database.
New Wave supports up to 21 Music Categories, allowing a station to separate music into groups such as Current, Recurrent, Gold, Christmas, Country, Rock, or any other categories appropriate for its format. The assigned Music Category can then be used when creating clocks and schedules.
New Wave supports the following audio file formats:
MP3, MP2, and WAV
For best results, use professionally encoded audio files with consistent sample rates and bit rates. Variable-bit-rate files should generally be avoided because they can sometimes report an incorrect runtime; constant-bit-rate files are preferred for reliable broadcast automation timing.
If the AAE cannot properly import a file, the file will not be added to the usable Audio Library and an error will be reported by the AAE. Common causes include an unsupported or corrupt audio file, an improperly formatted filename, an invalid or duplicate Cart Number, or a problem accessing the Audio Directory. Correct the problem and place the file back into the appropriate !Load New Audio Files folder to try the import again.
IMPORTANT: Always allow an audio file to completely finish recording, downloading, or copying before placing it into the !Load New Audio Files folder. Do not download or record directly into this folder. Importing a partially written file can result in an incomplete or corrupt audio file being processed.
