The Schedule Manager is the main workspace for building and maintaining a station’s broadcast schedule. It combines the audio library, clock templates, the actual play schedule, and the station’s operating-mode schedule on one screen.
All information shown belongs to the station identified at the top of the screen. Confirm the station name, serial number, date, and hour before making changes.
A typical schedule-building process is:
Select the date and hour.
Load or create the appropriate clock.
Apply the clock to the hour or day.
Populate the song-category positions.
Import traffic or an external music log when required.
Add or edit individual events.
Review the Air Schedule operating mode.
Use Auto-Segue if timing adjustments are needed.
Select Save Changes.
Run Schedule Check and correct any reported problems.
The APEX Server remains responsible for executing the saved schedule. Editing or viewing a schedule does not directly interrupt the audio currently playing on air.
The main timeline is divided into three working areas. Play Schedule, Clock and Air Schedule:
The Play Schedule is the actual list of audio and control events scheduled to run for the selected date and hour. It may contain songs, spots, jingles, satellite commands, timed recordings, and other events.
Each event block can display information such as:
Event title
Cart number
Audio type
Artist
Start and end times
Event length
Source or operating mode
This is the schedule that will ultimately be used by the APEX Server for on-air operation.
The Clock is a reusable hourly template. It defines the intended structure of an hour, including fixed carts, song-category positions, satellite periods, and other events.
A clock is not automatically the final playlist. After a clock is applied, song-category positions can be populated with actual music carts.
The Air Schedule determines the station’s operating mode during the selected hour. Examples include:
Automation Mode
Satellite Mode
Manual Play Mode
Live Assist Mode
An Air Schedule event can cover a portion of an hour or the entire hour. It tells the server how the station should operate during that period.
Use the date field to open the schedule for a particular day. The day of the week is displayed beside it.
Use the hour list to select the hour you want to view or edit.
Prev Hour moves back one hour.
Next Hour moves forward one hour.
Moving past midnight also changes the selected date as needed.
Changing the displayed date or hour does not itself modify the schedule.
The View options change the amount of timeline detail displayed:
Fine provides a closer view for precise event placement.
Normal is the standard working view.
Overview displays more of the hour at once.
The copy and paste buttons make it easier to reuse an existing schedule:
Copy Hour copies the selected hour.
Paste Hour places the copied hour into the currently selected date and hour.
Copy Day copies the selected day.
Paste Day places the copied schedule into the currently selected date.
Pasting can replace or substantially change the destination schedule. Verify the destination date, hour, and station before proceeding.
Select an existing event block to open its editor. Depending on the column and event type, the editor can provide settings for the event type, start time, length, source channel, song category, or other required information.
Select an open area of the timeline to begin adding an event at that location.
Different event colors help distinguish audio, clock, satellite, automation, and other event types. The event text provides the authoritative details.
Select Save Changes after editing the working schedule. Wait for the save or status message before changing the date, hour, or station.
PRO TIP
Alt + click can be used to move events. Hold Alt on your keyboard, and click the desired timeline position when repositioning an event.
Always review the resulting start and end times before saving.
The Audio Library on the left is used to locate audio that can be added to the Play Schedule or a clock.
You can:
Select a column heading to choose the search field.
Enter a search value and select Search.
Use the type filter to limit results to a particular audio type.
Use Previous, Next, or Load More to browse additional results.
Check or select an audio cart and choose Add Audio File to place it into the schedule.
Additional library tools include:
Cue — previews the selected cart.
Last Played — shows recent play information for the selected cart.
Artist Played — shows recent play information for the selected artist.
Scheduled — reports where the selected cart is scheduled.
The Play Schedule toolbar includes:
Auto-Segue — adjusts timing and overlaps to reduce unintended gaps.
Clear Hour — removes the Play Schedule events from the selected hour.
Clear Day — removes Play Schedule events from the selected day.
Populate Hour (Song) — replaces song-category positions with actual music selections for the selected hour.
Populate Day (Song) — populates song-category positions throughout the selected day.
Clearing or repopulating a schedule can replace existing work. These actions should be used only after confirming the selected date and hour.
The clock controls include:
Save Clock — saves the current Clock column as a reusable named clock.
Load Clock — loads a previously saved clock into the Clock column.
Assign Clocks — assigns default clocks and Air Schedule modes to station hours.
Apply Clock (Hour) — applies the displayed clock to the selected hour and replaces the existing hour schedule.
Apply Clock (Day) — applies assigned clocks across the selected day and replaces the affected schedules.
Auto-Segue — adjusts event timing to reduce gaps.
Clear Hour — clears the current clock workspace.
Clear Day — clears clock information for the selected day where applicable.
Loading a clock into the Clock column is different from applying it to the Play Schedule.
The Save Game Clock and Load Game Clock buttons maintain specialized clocks used for sports or other variable-length programming. Import Game Clock is displayed but may be unavailable depending on the current software version or configuration.
Game-clock operation will be covered separately.
Load Traffic imports and merges a traffic schedule into the appropriate dates and hours.
Load Music imports and merges an externally generated music schedule.
These operations may affect multiple hours or days. Confirm the imported file’s date and station before loading it.
Select Schedule Check to examine the next seven days for schedule problems. The resulting report identifies items that may require attention, such as missing audio, incomplete scheduling information, or other schedule errors.
Schedule Check reports problems but does not automatically correct them.
The Voice track button opens the voice-tracking workspace when that feature is available. It allows recorded voice tracks to be placed between scheduled audio events.
Voice tracking will be covered in its own section.
